Awakened by a Whisper: Listening to My Body
A few nights ago, I was stirred from sleep by a scratchy throat—a gentle nudge from my body signaling imbalance. Rather than reacting with worry, I turned inward to my healing rituals. Over time, I’ve developed a set of simple but powerful practices rooted in ancient yogic wisdom and modern biohacking. They’ve become my go-to tools for tuning into my body and supporting my immune system with grace and mindfulness.
Swallow with Intention: A Yogic Practice for Immune Health
My first response? I swallow intentionally, with awareness and force, imagining I’m collecting and pulling down anything that doesn’t belong—like bacteria lingering in my mouth or throat.
This practice was inspired by a book that first introduced me to the deeper wisdom of the body: Hatha Yoga by Yogi Ramacharaka, written in the early 1900s. In it, he describes methods for oral and systemic health, including sucking on the gums and teeth to stimulate energy and support detoxification. It may sound unusual, but this technique has protected me from both sore throats and dental issues over the years. This practice has become a cornerstone of my immune defense. When discomfort arises—whether from inflammation in the gums or tightness in the throat—I begin to pull saliva into my mouth, swish it, and swallow forcefully. I visualize the inflammatory agents leaving my mouth and throat, getting pulled down into my gut for digestion and removal.
Water as Medicine: Hydrate and Cleanse
After the swallow ritual, I sip water slowly, letting it mix with healing saliva in my mouth before swishing and swallowing—three times—with deep, nasal breathing in between. This conscious rhythm tells my nervous system to calm down and resets my immune defenses. I often feel relief within minutes.
Water is my first line of defense. I increase my intake during any immune challenge. It cools inflammation, supports detoxification, and keeps my entire system fluid and responsive. Water plays a central role. It is my first medicine, my inner elixir. During times when my immune system is on high alert, I increase my water intake dramatically. It’s intuitive—and it’s effective.

Essential Oils: Plant Allies for Immune Support
If my body feels like it’s preparing for fever or a more significant immune response, I bring in botanical allies. The other night, I reached for Thieves oil (Young Living) (also available from doTERRA, called “OnGuard”). These essential oil blends—containing clove, cinnamon, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary—offer powerful antimicrobial and immune-boosting support.
I place a couple of drops under my tongue or in water, swish them through my mouth, and visualize them sweeping away invaders. The heat of the oils, the clarity they bring—I feel them working instantly.
Gut Health: Supporting the Immune System from Within
I know that immunity doesn’t live in the mouth alone—it’s deeply connected to the gut microbiome. So I also nourish myself with whole-food multivitamins, supergreens like spirulina and chlorella, kombucha, and fermented foods. These provide prebiotics and probiotics, the essential nutrients and organisms that keep my gut and immune cells thriving. When I’m exposed to a chemical toxin, such as pesticides, herbicides, or food additives like preservatives or food coloring, these also tend to challenge my system. My third line of immune defense is Activated Charcoal. I have a capsule supplement that I can take as an antidote for toxins at any moment.

The Mind as Medicine: The Power of Belief
None of these techniques would be as effective without one critical ingredient: my belief in them.
“Your personality creates your personal reality.” — Dr. Joe Dispenza
I repeat affirmations that are now deeply ingrained in my consciousness: “I am a self-healer. I don’t get sick. I have a strong immune system. I take exquisite care of myself.” These mantras reprogram my mind, aligning my biology with my intention. This is neuroplasticity in action—the ability to create new neural pathways that support healing, resilience, and vitality.
“If you want to be unbreakable, you need to learn how to hack your own biology.” — Dave Asprey, Founder of Bulletproof
I believe in my body. I believe in my ability to heal. And my body believes me right back.
Why I Share This
These healing rituals may not be widely known or conventional—but they work for me. They are a reflection of ancient wisdom, modern wellness science, and intuitive practice coming together. I share them now not as medical advice, but as a loving offering—a reminder that your body knows how to heal. You just have to listen.
Namaste,
